Shiny and New

Honestly, I can't think of anyone I'd rather see performing Madonna's song "Ray of Light" at her induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame than Iggy Pop and the re-formed Stooges.

Wow. That is AWESOME! And I love how nobody in the audience seems to understand how awesome it is, though at one point it looks like Madonna and her people are starting to get it. Hard to tell....

It's brilliant. Iggy is treating the material (and Madonna herself) with sincere respect while simultaneously taking the piss out of the whole scene. There aren't a lot of other rock and roll people who could pull that off, let alone 60-year-old ones.

That is AMAZING. I seriously, deeply love Iggy Pop and that's...just...the BEST! If you've never heard his Fresh Air interview you should look it up. It's hilarious and wonderful.

There aren't a lot of other 60-year-old rock and roll people who could pull off performing shirtless, either. Was he topless in homage to Madonna?

Cool! Here's the Fresh Air interview. I'm looking forward to listening to this.

John, Iggy generally doesn't wear shirts. Gold lame jackets with cheetahs on them yes, shirts no.

Iggy Pop's finest hour, however, remains his voiceover role in the animated postapocalyptic musical Rock & Rule, also starring the voices of Debbie Harry and Lou Reed. (As mutant bipedal cats and dogs.)
