Sunday at Hinode

O: "What a cute baby."

T: "She looks like she's made of marzipan."

R: "Ok, that's like the weirdest thing I've ever heard anybody say about a baby. 'She looks like she's made of marzipan.'"

T: "She really does. Look, her father's bringing her back by."

All: "Awwww."

R (sotto voce): "Oh, my god, she totally does!"

I hope that baby looked better than these things I recently made out of marzipan. Actually, now that I think of it, some of my marzipan creations look kind of like they could have come out of a baby made of marzipan, don't they?

That was a first-timer for me too. Never heard the word marzipan used to describe a baby. I wonder if it is just one of those lovely germanic turns of phrase that we are privileged to hear every now and then. BTW... I adore marzipan. When I was at summer camp... in New Hampshire...and was very, very young, the counselors led us to a little glen in the woods where we found trees hung with all sorts of marzipan fruits... I was in heaven. I will never forget it.

I think the kid really, honestly, literally looked like she was made of marzipan. I found it kind of disturbing, actually.

Do the Marzipan Folk eat their young? That might explain why we don't see more marzipan babies...
